Dark rain

gusty winds

the whine of engines.

My gut

held ransom

by the dizzying dance

of butterflies 

as the plane propels upwards.

The crackle

and peal

of thunder

rattle the windows.

Then at last –

above the soaked clouds

golden beams

chase away what felt so real

for so long

so quickly.
